Sticking to my plan of doing speed work on Tuesdays and tempo runs on Thursdays, I ran 6x800m today at the gym on the mill. Too bad my gym doesn’t have an indoor track; that would be awesome. I can’t believe that my lungs burn, even after running inside as opposed to running outside! I can now see the ash blowing around in the wind. Crazy. Hope these firefighters gain some ground.
Including my warm up and cool down, I ran 5.75 miles.
After each 800, I allowed myself one recovery lap, I jogged each recovery lap at a 4.5 – 6.0 on the mill. Here is the breakdown of my 800s.
1. 8.5, or a 7:04 pace
2. 8.6, or a 6:59 pace
3. 8.7, or a 6.54
4. 8.5, or a 7:04 pace
5. 8.6, or a 6.59 pace
I switched things up on my final 800. I ran the first 400 on a 8.8 (6:49 pace) and the second 400 on a 9.0 (6.40 pace).
I’m hopeful that these workouts will help me achieve my goal time for the Long Beach 1/2. I need to step it up. Ideally, I would like to run each 800 at a 9.
